Both the aronia berry and elderberry are from a plants native to this region of North America. Marked by an astringent tannic character, aronia is often called the choke berry. While you may not be eating handfuls of these things, they have a wonderful fruity character that compliments the earthier elderberry. We made this deep ruby melomel by pressing and fermenting local aronia berries, local elderberries, orange blossom honey, and aging it in Missouri Oak. It finishes dry with velvety tannin, a touch of alcohol warmth on the exhale, floral and fruity aromatics, and a lingering bright berry finish. Pairs exceptionally with ribeye steak or charcuterie.
